Objectives

PRIME OBJECTIVES OF EEP

To sensitize children/ youth, on issues related to environment and to motivate them to adopt sustainable lifestyle.
To supplement the efforts of Ministry of Education in the formal education front, through varied pedagogical initiatives to impart non-formal environment education.
To utilise strength of Eco-clubs already formed under National Green Corps programme for propagation of environment friendly behaviour and encourage students and communities to become Pro Planet People.
About EEP

Environment Education Programme (EEP)

The Environment Education Programme (EEP) is an initiative of the Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change, Government of India for strengthening non formal environment education activities across the country. It is a component of the Central Sector scheme " Environment Education, Awareness, Research and Skill Development (EEARSD)" that intends to leverage on the key sectoral strength of Eco-clubs already formed under National Green Corps programme, in addition to targeting Youth Clubs and other such clubs/ units/ groups formed under various programmes/ schemes of the Government. ASSAM SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY & ENVIRONMENT COUNCIL

The Assam Science Technology and Environment Council is representing as State Nodal Agency (SNA) for implementing EEP in Assam . The Assam Science Technology & Environment Council (ASTEC) was constituted in 1986-87 as an autonomous Council of the Department of Science Technology & Environment, Govt. of Assam for implementation of some of the major programmes in the sectors of science & technology, remote sensing, energy (non-conventional & renewable sources) and environment as the institutional organization of the Department.

Roles

ROLE OF DIFFERENT STAKEHOLDERS

Eco Clubs

To organize awareness programs, competitions, seminars, debates, lectures, popular talks, etc., on environmental issues and conservation. Organize plantation drives, cleanliness drives, rallies, marches, street plays, etc. in school campuses and public places to spread environmental awareness. Promote eco-friendly practices, growing gardens, etc. and maintaining them with active involvement of Eco-Club cadres.

District Nodal Agency

  • To collect Eco Club data and compile for hassle free communication with them.
  • To plan and execute all district level and Eco Club level EEP activities involving children, youth, community people, etc.
  • To provide assistance to the State Nodal Agency in implementation of Mission LiFE in concerned districts as and when asked for.
  • To collect and submit Utilisation Certificates, Statement of Expenditures, Photographs of activities, etc

State Nodal Agency
  • To plan and execute Sustainable Lifestyle Workshops/ Projects/ Exhibitions/ Campaigns/ Competitions/ Nature Camps/ Summer Vacation Programmes, etc.
  • To plan and execute Nature Camps for target beneficiaries to make them understand and appreciate India’s unique natural diversity, varied ecosystems, flora and fauna, as well as the threats to their survival.
  • To organise thematic campaigns/ competitions like quiz, debate, essay, painting, physical activities, community participation, etc.
  • To monitor all the school level and district level activities and report the activities to the Ministry.
  • To ensure synergy of all the initiatives under EEP with the Prime Minister’s Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) mission.
  • To appoint and monitor District Nodal Agencies for implementing district level activities.
